Welcome to Ole's Cupboard!
Ole’s Cupboard is a backpack program coordinated through the Argyle School District and the Argyle Booster Club to provide a weekend backpack of nutritious, child-friendly meal-type food for children to pick up on Fridays or the last day of school before a scheduled break. Backpacks are returned on Monday mornings or the next school day, offering a simple, discreet way for kids to have reliable food all weekend long.
We partner with Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin to keep these backpacks stocked. Over long holiday breaks (Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas) and during the summer, we send a larger box home. When possible, we also include gift certificates to the local locker plant so families can purchase fresh meat.
Ole’s Cupboard was started in 2020. Our team consists of teachers and two school family members who support us by ordering and picking up from our suppliers, stocking our shelves, packing food bags, tracking inventory and distributing backpacks to participating families. Over the years, we have served 24 families (99 family members) and we are currently serving 6 families (23 family members).
This program was launched thanks to generous financial gifts from The Swiss Colony and the Argyle Community Foundation, along with many donations we’ve received over the past five years. But as the need continues — and as food costs rise — ongoing community support is essential to keeping Ole’s Cupboard going. You can support Ole’s Cupboard in a variety of ways!
