Argyle School District offers Driver’s Education and Behind the Wheel instruction during the school year. Driver Education is a two-phase program consisting of: (1) classroom instruction and (2) behind-the-wheel instruction on city, interstate and residential roadways. We will offer two sections of the course each year if there is enough interest, one in the fall and one in the spring. If there is not enough interest to run the course in the spring, we will inform families of that ahead of time so they can plan accordingly.
The cost of the Course and Behind the Wheel is one flat fee of $250. Students can take the course online or elsewhere at their own expense, but the fee for driving will still be $250.
Driver’s Education is a quarter long course and no credit is awarded on the transcript. The 2nd quarter of the semester will be dedicated to driving during the school day.
This course will meet the minimum WI state requirements for classroom instruction and behind-the-wheel instruction of 6 hours driving and 6 hours of observation. The course will build a solid foundation of knowledge and practice for students by teaching laws of the road, practice performing the act of driving.
Who is eligible to take it: Any student who is at least 14.5, by April 1 of the previous year to be eligible to enroll in the classroom instruction in the Fall. Students are eligible for their learner’s permit at age 15 and must complete their first Behind the Wheel lesson within 60 days of their application. Students must still hold their permit for a minimum of 6 months and must be 16 years old in order to obtain their driver’s license.
